Young Producer Training

About

Young Producer Training gives you the skills, confidence and real‑world experience to make creative projects happen - from shaping ideas and leading events and working with industry partners. If you want to create, influence and make your mark, this is where you start.

You’ll learn how to plan creative projects, run events and develop your own ideas. If you want to create, collaborate and shape what happens in your area, this is your space to start.

Past young producers have created a wide range of projects and programmes; from Burnley’s first ever Pride festival to our recent 2 week multi‑venue youth arts festival. They’ve led campaigns for better health and mental‑health support, delivered training to arts organisations on how to work with young people, collaborated on short films, and driven activism projects around climate change and so much more. Their ideas have shaped real decisions, real events and real change in their communities.

Plan & Produce Big Ideas

Take your ideas seriously and learn how to turn them into real projects. You’ll get hands‑on with planning, budgeting, timelines and roles, and learn how to deliver events that actually happen - this could be anything from a wellbeing or activism project, or something with platforms young creativity.

Build New Skills

Build the creative tools you need to promote your work and tell your story. Photography, video, socials, documentation, presenting your ideas with confidence everything you need to make your projects look and feel professional.

Collaborate

Work directly with other young people and cultural organisations, from heritage sites, local authorities and community groups. You’ll learn how to co‑design projects, influence decisions, understand audiences and shape what happens in your area.

Grow Your Professional Power

Develop leadership, teamwork and problem‑solving skills, learn how to run safe and inclusive events, and build a portfolio or CV that shows funders, employers and collaborators exactly what you can do.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Young people aged 18- 25 who are interested in creativity, events, leadership or making change in their community. Our usual age limitations for young producers 18-25 but this can vary.

  • Not at all. You just need curiosity, ideas and a willingness to get involved. We support young people at whatever stage they are at.

  • Every development opportunity we run is different and led by the those involved and their interests but in all of our programmes you'll learn to plan and deliver real creative projects, connect with other cultural organisations partners, learn production skills and shape decisions that affect young people.

  • Yes -  there’s no cost to join, and we often cover costs for travel or food to help you participance.

  • We work with you to make sure the programme is accessible, welcoming and safe for everyone. We welcome suggestions and feedback to continually improve our work and ensure everyone has an equal opportunity to take part and benefit from the opportunities we offer.

  • Many young producers go on to lead their own projects, join youth boards, take up creative paid roles or continue working with us. All young people will be offered one to one careers advice from a qualified careers coach, specialising in the creative and cultural sector to help you on your next step - whatever that might be !

  • You’ll be supported by experienced producers, artists and youth workers who guide you through planning, delivery and reflection.

  • Programmes vary, but most involve regular sessions plus time working on your project as it develops.
